Out of the Shadows

My colleague, Juan Galindo, and I are the editing stages of a documentary called Out of the Shadows, focusing on the struggle for passage of the Dream Act. The beneficiaries of  the Dream Act, were it to become law, are young adults brought to the United States in infancy or early childhood. The United States is the only country they know, yet they are  undocumented, unable to get social security numbers, barred from  many forms of state and federal aid if they wish to go to college, barred from much of the job market. In other words, through no fault of their own they live in a shadow world unable to pursue dreams they share with  peers lucky enough to have been born in this country. Out of the Shadows captures what being undocumented means on a day-to-day basis, and also tells the stories of those who are “no longer afraid” as they come out of the shadows to fight for passage of a law that would provide a path to citizenship. We will keep you posted as we move toward completion of a film that we hope will be a powerful voice calling for justice
